How to save money and get rid of your junk for free!

Hi, my name is Chris Blumfeldt, and I am the owner of Ohio Junk Force.  We are a full-service junk removal company.  Today I want to discuss how you can get rid of your junk for free (or at least for less money).

Eventually everyone finds themselves in a place where they need to get rid of junk.  Sometimes this junk does not fit into their trash can because it is too big, or, they have more junk than they could possibly get rid of with their local trash removal service.  Maybe, you recently moved, completed a re-model on your home, or you are cleaning out an estate. So, what do you do with this junk? How do you get rid of it for free?  Here are some tips on disposing of unwanted items for free.

  1. Sell anything of value.  If you must get rid of stuff and there is a potential to sell it, why not try?  One man’s trash is another’s treasure.  You could have a garage sale or advertise items on Craigslist or OfferUp.  Some people put the items on the lawn with a for sale sign.  Take it to a consignment shop and see if they will buy it or sell it for a small commission.
  2. Give away anything you cannot sell.  If no one is buying your stuff, will they take it for free?  Can you give it to a donation company like Salvation Army?  Search “donation centers near me” and then call each of them.  By giving the items away you save yourself time and energy trying to figure out how to get rid of it and you keep the items from going to a landfill!
  3. If it can be recycled like things made of metal, take it to a metal recycling shop.  Some cities have places where you can recycle electronics also.  Call you local city and ask.  Another trick to get rid of items that are made of metal is to place them on your front yard the day before your trash pickup.  Metal items are almost sure to be picked up by local scrappers (people who collect metal items and sell them at a recycler).
  4. Your local city may have a “bulk” trash day.  Contact your local city and tell them what you have and how much.  Ask them what you should do about it.  I have seen some cities come and do special pick-ups just for one family in need.

When you have done all you can and you still have things that you do not know how to get rid of, call your local professional junk removal service company, like Ohio Junk Force.  This is not free service, but hopefully, you have eliminated much of what you wanted to get rid of with the above steps.

I hope this was helpful.  Good luck and God Bless!
